The Bugle
The bugle is made of brass or copper and is silver plated. In its original form, the bugle is the signal horn for the infantry. The regulation bugle is now built in Bb only and, as it is treated as a transposing instrument, the calls are still written in the key of C. Only five notes are required for the various calls. |
|
The Cord-Royal
A Plaited cord with tassels fitted on both ends is prescribed for carrying the bugle. It is made of tri colour worsted threads of Red, Blue and Yellow. |
|
The Drum
The Drum is nearly as “old as Adam” and of course evolved from the biblical timbrel. Originally the drummers stood round the standard to assure the fighting men that the flag< although perhaps hidden from their view in the din of battle, was still flying. The drums used by the Royal Marines and by us are the snare drum, tenor drum and the bass drum. |
